Zone Bones

I found Quint Tatro on the internet years ago and followed him to his site, Tickerville. The civility and community based atmosphere was refreshing to say the least. Everything I’ve done in my life has been the hard way. I have recognized thru the years that I just don’t like asking for help. Teaching myself as I go, in business and investing. Being a charter member I have learned a lot, without asking for help most of the time, the teaching is always there, if you look for it or ask, however. This is a business where the learning never ends. Like many I was glad to learn that there was more than just buy and hold when it came to investing.

After graduating from Virginia Tech, I started a concession business... Actively participating in this business for 20 years until the last 5 years when I decided to trade year round and to quit trying to do both during the summer months. The business is still active but without me mostly. Since 1985 I have been managing my family’s money, thoroughly upsetting the family stockbroker as I withdrew our accounts. I did one stint with a financial firm, becoming a licensed financial advisor. Selling funds etc. that I wouldn’t have bought for myself became too much of a conflict for me.

I like to think of myself as a versatile trader that can short, go long, day trade, and swing trade, as the market dictates which approach will work with the appropriate stock. And it is the traders job to find it. But I have recognized that my forte is taking high beta names in a strong market or a strong sector and selling some and swinging the rest over time. I even do this with big old stodgy stocks that I find that are just being discovered as they recover out of a base from some dismal scenario. Trading around a winner for me is also something that is very rewarding, both financially and emotionally. I also like to find themes early. This is very hard at times, but can be very nice for the bottom line.
I am married and have one daughter, we live in southwest Virginia.
